Book III

Chapter Seventeen

An ELVEN TELLING : “The MEADOW”

0. Once upon a Starful Night,
The Dragon of Songs
Picked up a Seed.

1.
With her voice, she kissed it.
With a song, she gave it Spirit.
Then, she put it down,
And used her tail to cover it with soil.

2.
When it sprouted, it could dream.
When it dreamt, the sprout could sing.
When it sang, it grew some more,
And sometimes (just sometimes)
The grass would sing with it.

3.
Then, that sprout became a tree,
And fruit grew from its supple branches.
When it fell, the fruit glowed brightly.
When orcs at it, they glowed, too.

4.
Other things began to sing.
Stones, and stalks of corn, and thorns…
Soon, the Meadow was full of song,
Full of singing,
Full of life,
Full of living,
Alive.

*5*
Upon returning, the Dragon smiled,
Smiled wide. The Stars smiled with her.
Then, the Meadow sang her the song
She had once sung
To one small seedling.

6. [Lost]

7. [Lost]

8. [Lost]

9. Once upon a Starry Grove,
The little goddess of drunken dreams
Picked up a Shard of Flint.
