I've spent this summer speaking at churches and conferences across the country, and three things keep coming up in nearly every conversation I have with young guys.
These are not lazy, passive, or unserious guys. Many of them are disciplined, ambitious, physically fit, theologically committed, and trying to become the kind of men the church says it wants. They want to marry. They want to build something. They want their lives to matter.
But a growing number of them are deeply frustrated, and not for the reasons people usually assume. The first thing they keep telling me will make some Christian women angry. The second should embarrass many churches. The third is so basic that I cannot believe young men have to beg for it.
These three problems reveal that the crisis facing young men is not simply that too many are lost, addicted, immature, or afraid of responsibility. Some of the strongest young men I know are ready. The question is whether the church is ready for them.
