Adolf Hitler was born April 20, 1889, in Braunau am Inn, Austria. The following passage is taken from our book Imperium of Thought: Writings of the Dutch SS, originally published to celebrate Hitler’s 55th birthday in 1944 (emphasis added).
“The value of all that is human lies in the value of personality,” says the Führer. Every idea and achievement stems from the creative drive of a single individual. This drive is, above all, what sets the great artist apart: the power to give form to what lives within him, to bring forth something never before created, to shape and master the material until a “living” work of art emerges—a work in which, as we say, he “lives.”
This element of creation is most evident in the artist, but it lives in all great minds. That’s why the Führer uses the painter to illustrate how profoundly creative work is tied to its creator. We place this idea at the forefront because the Führer, in this sense, is himself an artist—and his work must be understood in that light...
Let us pause to reflect on this. Within every great artist there exists a powerful compulsion—an inner necessity, a driving inspiration. He finds neither rest nor peace until his work reaches completion. Small-minded people cannot comprehend this.
The Führer, too, experiences this compulsion, this inspiration, this calling. But what is the work of art he is creating? When will it be completed? His work of art is Germany—it is Germania—it is the Reich itself.
