I started this post thinking it would simply be a roundup of things I’ve been wearing lately, but as I pulled everything together, I realized many of these pieces would work equally well for summer travel. If I’m reaching for something repeatedly at home, it usually deserves a spot in the suitcase too. As I thought more about travel dressing, I revisited some of the things I’ve packed successfully in the past, particularly sets. I’ve also been layering necklaces more often lately, but don’t always want to travel with fine jewelry. I found a good solution for that too.
I know something is working in my closet when I repeatedly reach for it while getting dressed in a hurry. A With Nothing Underneath stripe shirt has become exactly that. I love the fit and the way it falls open at just the right spot. It’s oversized enough to feel relaxed, but not so much that it can’t be tucked in. I’ve been wearing it as above, which is essentially my uniform lately, but will also pair with white linen shorts or pants, and as a coverup. I’m considering the matching shorts, which I’d realistically only wear on vacation. A pair of M.Gemi suede drivers have also been on repeat and I’m happy I chose navy. They work especially well with denim.
You’ve seen me wear the same stripe band fedora several times. I also have it in black, and cream with black band. I’ve had them for years. Although the stripe version is no longer available, the solid cream, tan, and black colors are. I’m carrying an older Loewe cognac tote and like how it picks up the brown stripe in the shirt. The Victoria Beckham tote is a good alternative. Understated, classic, but still interesting.
I’m always asked about these jeans and still can’t understand why Frame discontinued them. They’ve slightly redesigned the fit into a newer style called The Vertical Crop.
A close-up of the shirt shows a better depiction of the brown stripe. I loved this combination and wanted to play with blue and brown a little more. A pair of COS trousers (on sale, going fast) show how well the pairing works. I also wanted to share a casual jewelry find. With the exception of Dorsey, I don't usually pay much attention to jewelry outside the fine category. Thatch was a new brand introduced to me, and the pieces were intriguing enough to try. I was curious how they would compare next to jewelry I already own, both in tone and overall quality. They offered to gift me a few pieces, and I selected a bracelet (below) and the Riviera necklace above worn alongside a Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra. The gold tones are nearly identical. If you prefer to leave your fine jewelry at home when you travel, they feel like a good alternative. They also blend in surprisingly well with jewelry I already wear.
The same With Nothing Underneath shirt also comes in other fabrics. The linen Boyfriend Fit feels timeless, like something I’d wear for years. I’m considering navy, but could easily justify a black and white one too. I like the simple pleated trouser it’s styled with on the site, but also picture it with chino shorts and flat sandals. The Hermès pair are especially good. The cuff is the other piece I selected from Thatch and stacks nicely with my other gold bracelets.
A compact lipstick is one of those things I appreciate more when traveling. I love Westman Atelier lipstick and Rhode Pocket Blush, but rarely carry either simply because the packaging takes up more room than I want in my bag.
I was looking through photos from previous trips and noticed how often I wore some variation of a white linen shirt with matching shorts or pants. It reminded me not to overthink packing and to stick with what consistently works. I need to refresh a few of my pieces and have been browsing options from J.Crew, COS, and Reformation. White linen is not something I splurge on. I want to wash it often, wear it slightly wrinkled, and not worry too much about stains.
The head to toe white looks don’t stop with linen. White denim will always have a place in my closet too. A great belt and an interesting shoe are often all that’s needed to make the outfit feel more finished. Lately, my focus has shifted to belts with a standout, almost western inspired, buckle like this, this, and for a splurge, this.
I did an entire post on sets last year (this one too) after realizing how useful they were while traveling, and I still feel the same way. I’m revisiting the idea with different silhouettes and fabrics, particularly lightweight jackets. I like wearing them buttoned up as shirts and appreciate how much mileage they add to a casual wardrobe. An updated trouser also helps keep the look from becoming too predictable. The stripe poplin set is refreshing. I’d wear the skirt with a tee, lightweight knit, or one of the white shirts above tied at the waist. The matching shirt works well with white denim. I’d save the white gauze set for warmer destinations. The fabric is ideal for staying cool while still feeling covered.
