If you’ve been trying to figure out how to make space for Sabbath in your week, we’re going there today. I know it sounds almost impossible to reserve a day for rest and delight, but I’m telling you, this specific rhythm has changed me. Whether you’re a busy mom or a busy college student, we’re going to talk about why Sabbath matters in your week. Pastor Tyler Staton is such a wise voice when it comes to these spiritual rhythms we’re talking about this year and I’m so thankful he was willing to help us navigate the topic of Sabbath today on That Sounds Fun.
We’ve also created a Sabbath Practice Guide for you! This includes ideas on how to make space for rest daily, weekly, and annually. Keep scrolling to the bottom to find your guide.
My favorite part of my Sabbath practice doesn’t happen on Sabbath.
It happens the evening before.
I love preparing for Sabbath rest—shutting down my work life and putting it away—whether that’s shutting the door to my guest room with my backpack and work items in it, or just hanging my work bag in the laundry room. I love running the dishwasher and finishing that last load of laundry, taking out the trash and straightening up.
The mantra in my head is, “What can you do today to make tomorrow beautiful and restful?” So I try to do all of that.
I usually pick out the puzzle I want to put together during my Sabbath and set it out on the dining room table. I may also go ahead and set out my puzzle mat and trays. (Absolute game changers for puzzling…I’ve linked them in the resources below!)
