It’s official: the Republican primary for this Senate seat is headed to a runoff.

I can’t say I’m surprised.

When you’re picking between someone who’s Trump-endorsed and unqualified, someone who lied about hiking the Appalachian Trail while he was actually having an extramarital affair, and someone with a career of votes gutting the programs South Carolina families count on — there is no good option.

I’m offering South Carolina something different. I’m a pediatrician and a mom of three — not a career politician with a scandal sheet and a record of selling out working families. And with this seat open for the first time in decades, we have a real, winnable shot to send someone to the Senate who actually answers to you.

But the second they pick their nominee, national Republicans and their billionaire PACs will pour millions into this state to prop up whichever one comes out on top.
