I went for the asparagus

Annette Naber · Seasons of a Wild Life

The asparagus bed in my garden is finally sending up the oddest of veggies: alien-looking green telescopes that quickly double and triple in size if you blink. I love asparagus and grabbed a few handfuls for our breakfast.

But before I left the garden, other plants were calling out to me and I quickly ended up with half a dozen weedy greens and flowers:

Redbud flowers, creasy greens with their yellow flowers, purple deadnettle, garden sorrel, garlic grass (field garlic), mint, and, of course, asparagus stalks.

I always feel rich when I bring an abundance of plants back to the house. Nature’s blessings allow me to tune out the news and focus on something much healthier and more wholesome, something that won’t make me so angry that I can’t post for several days because I have to process and attempt to digest the implications of the newest headlines. I won’t address those here but instead will show you what I made with some of the plants I foraged - breakfast is served!

This is my 40th post as part of the 100 Day Project. I will post on a weekly basis from now on as I am preparing for a big trip abroad. I am also getting ready to lead and co-lead three retreats between June and October this year. Announcements to follow.
