This month at Everyday Ambassador, we’ve been exploring the powers of amateurs — a word that comes from the Latin amare, to love. Somewhere along the way it became an insult. I’ve spent July trying to reclaim it for peace-building work, because in a field built entirely on credentials, a beginner’s mind and a pure love of the work turn out to be the most powerful — and most subversive — elements of success.
Our monthly Salon brings together thoughtful people from across the globe to explore these themes together — to share our own experiences and learn practical approaches we can use in our own lives. On Friday, August 7 at 7 PM Eastern, we go hands-on , and we have the perfect person in the room to help us do it.
This month’s guest: The Executive Who Walked Away
A Salon member who spent his career climbing to an executive seat in Silicon Valley — and then walked away from it. He’ll talk about why he did it, what that decision actually cost, what it gave back, and what it means to rebuild an identity around curiosity instead of title.
As a jumping-off point, we’ll be discussing an excerpt from Andy Couturier’s The Abundance of Less — a book of profiles of people who left mainstream urban careers for simpler, slower lives in rural Japan.
