Andy | Tales from Anndale · Andy | Tales from Anndale

So with all those months out the way writing that first short story (yes I’m a slow writer) my mind now moves to the next instalment. Where do I take it? Can I write something with a similar emotional hit? Which characters do I want to explore? Which characters need a back story? Do I go back in time again? These are all things rattling around in my head at the moment.

The other day I came up with some concepts off the top of my head. Some I’ve considered a while, some are just fresh thoughts and some have come about only since finishing Brambles and Blackbirds.

Here they are and a brief description:

  • A Captain Hardy story - Captain Hardy runs the Anndale Trading Post handling supplies, deliveries, exports to and from our little village out to the wider world. I have this idea fleshed out the most as I came up with the concept for it before even the first tale.
    *
Captain Hardy might get a name change because of the whole “Kiss me Hardy” thing with Admiral Nelson.

  • A Lady Anne Dryhton tale - I’m thinking of telling this as a tribute to her life at the time of her death. This returns us to more of Anndale’s creation (or rebuilding) and how she was the person who made Anndale the idyllic place it is as seen 100 years later.

  • Maggie’s backstory - Her death is mentioned briefly in Brambles and Blackbirds and who is Henry the stable boys mother. A tragic character that probably needs fleshed out.

  • Mrs Potts - The widower and church organist. What is her background? This idea was suggested by Lu, otherwise it wouldn’t really have crossed my mind.

  • A History of Dryhton Hall - Not really a story, but a history of the hall and the land it sits on. A history told over 1000 years.

Dryhton Hall
  • The Manor’s Dogs - Maybe I’ll attempt to pull a story together that is cosy and warming as was originally envisioned in this idyllic village.

  • The Building of Anndale Community Hall - telling of the lead into its building, expanding the village in the years after the storm in Brambles and Blackbirds.

So these are what may be coming in the future over weeks and months (and years - I did say I’m slow) This list will grow and shrink as new ideas come along and others are abandoned.
