We photograph what we’re afraid of losing. And in a world that moves faster than ever, everyday photos are tiny acts of remembering.

If you’re new around here — hi, I’m Anja, and I’m a photographer and this is Life, Documented, — a space to notice life and explore the impact of documenting it.

I was once told I’m too much of a photographer… which I personally took as a compliment. And honestly, that obsession with noticing, remembering, and capturing everyday life is exactly what inspired this podcast.

Here, we’ll talk about why even small, messy, imperfect photos matter — and how they can help you see your life differently.

I always have my camera with me. And for the past six years, I’ve photographed daily. Everyday life. The exciting bits and the boring in-betweens. I’m obsessed with documentary photography, and I’ll talk about it to anyone, anywhere, anytime — so it only makes sense to turn all of that into a podcast.

But while this is a photography podcast, we’re not going to get overly technical. It’s not about perfect images, pixel-peeping, or how to get the sharpest shot. And it’s not about turning you into a professional photographer — there are plenty of fantastic business podcasts for that.

I’m here for the messy, beautiful work of documenting real life.

It’s about noticing, seeing clearly, and making meaning through the act of looking.

It’s also about anchoring ourselves in a world where the lines between real and unreal are getting blurrier by the day.

Because photos shape our identity — who we were, who we are, and who we’re becoming. What we notice, what we choose to document, and what we keep… it all matters more than we think.

Society loves milestones.

When a baby is born, parents are given lists of things to look out for — the big markers that “prove” development. And sure, milestones matter. But in real life, they’re just the tip of the iceberg.

Birthdays, holidays, weddings, graduations — beautiful, meaningful, important. But they’re not the whole story.

The real transformation? It happens in the messy middle.

The everyday.

The parts we don’t frame, stage, or prepare for.

And instead of focusing on the curated highlight reel of our lives, I want to invite you into something deeper — documenting the honesty behind the scenes.

Show the chaos.

The imperfections.

The everyday truth.

And when I say “show it,” I don’t mean sharing it online. That meme — “pics or it didn’t happen” — has convinced people that if we don’t post something, it wasn’t real.

But documenting your life isn’t about proving anything to the internet.

It’s about keeping a record for you, and for the people you love.

You can share whatever you want online, of course — but everyday documentation doesn’t need an audience to matter. The value of the documentation isn’t measured in likes — it’s measured in meaning.

Here’s why I’m so obsessed with the moments that rarely make it to Instagram.

Everyday photos are the truest record of our lives. They help children understand their place in the world. They remind us that life isn’t a series of perfect portraits — it’s a Tuesday afternoon after gymnastics, when homework is due, and dinner is a rushed negotiation. It’s the bedtime story that’s been read for three weeks straight. It’s the familiar chaos of trying to keep up with home life while the days blur together.

Everyday images capture seasons, rhythms, patterns — the subtle ways life shifts when we’re not paying attention.

Today these photos might seem boring.

In twenty years, they’ll mean everything.

One day, the picture of your child brushing their teeth will hold more emotion than the photo of them winning a trophy.

Daily photography slows you down.

It teaches you to pay attention — to be present — to really see.

The photos you take become proof of life… and not just life itself, but how well you’re living it. They keep your story real in a world where “reality” is becoming harder and harder to define.

Documenting your everyday is an act of grounding.

What’s worth photographing to you?
What do you want to keep and remember?

The extraordinary is always hiding in the ordinary. Let’s learn to see it again.

That’s all for today… Thank you for listening.
Until next time.
