Welcome! It’s another Thursday edition of the Animation Obsessive newsletter. And, this time, we’re going a little deeper into three past topics from 2026.
The process behind our newsletter is tricky to explain. We have a long list of ideas, and many of those ideas sit there for years, as we wait for leads and angles to appear (and as we gather material proactively). Maybe four years of buildup, for example, went into our Sherlock Hound article from January.
After an article goes out, it’s common for research to continue. We follow leads, buy more books, confirm details that were originally too tenuous to publish. A lot of work occurs under the surface. Often, it feeds into later pieces. But there isn’t always an obvious place to put what we learn.
So, today, we’re pulling together a few discoveries that haven’t fit elsewhere — tied to our stories on Sherlock Hound, the style of One Hundred and One Dalmatians and the character designs of Mulan. Hope you enjoy!
