All families deserve a fighting chance to achieve the American Dream

Achieving the American Dream didn’t always feel so out of reach. My life is proof that when folks are provided with opportunity and resources, anything is possible. There were times when we relied on government assistance to get by, and that made all the difference.

As some of you know, I grew up in a mobile home park, the daughter of a hardworking single mom. I watched her go to work and take care of my siblings and me all while working toward her teaching degree. We didn’t have much — but thanks to her and my grandmother, we had what we needed.

I got my first job at the age of 16 and worked at McDonald’s. I kept working all throughout high school because I knew if I wanted to go to college, I would have to pay for it. I got into a state school and worked two jobs right up until graduation. I became a journalist and that job would eventually lead me to a career with a major Minnesota manufacturing company that specialized in healthcare devices. And now, many years later, I’m living my version of the American Dream and am running to be the first lesbian woman to represent Minnesota in the United States Senate.

None of that happened by accident. Yes, I’ve always worked hard, but when my family needed help along the way, we got it. That’s what gave me a fighting chance and got me to where I am today.

All families deserve a fighting chance to achieve the American Dream, but Trump and the GOP are doing everything they can to make that impossible. Prices are high, health care is out of reach. There has been budget cut after budget cut to slash essential government programs like SNAP, which primarily helps feed hungry kids.

Trump and his enablers in the MAGA-controlled Senate are a threat to people’s chances at achieving the American Dream. I’m running to change that. And you better believe, I don’t just want a fighting chance for all American families, but I also want that right here in Minnesota.

Minnesotans deserve to have a fighting chance at beating Trump’s handpicked candidate Michele Tafoya. I believe I am the best person for that job. I turned a Republican stronghold blue, and have been fighting for Minnesota families ever since. Meanwhile, my primary opponent has never won a competitive race against a Republican. That matters because whoever wins on August 11th, won’t just be going up against MAGA Michele. They will be fighting back against Trump and the full MAGA machine and their mega-million dollar war chest.

I wouldn’t be running this race if it didn’t have the power to make or break the Democratic majority. And I definitely wouldn’t be running if I wasn’t certain that I’m the only candidate who can take on Donald Trump and Senate Republicans’ endless corruption.

This seat is that important! It will determine who controls the Senate. It will determine whether we can block Trump’s most extreme nominees. Whether we protect your health care. Whether working families in Minnesota have a fighter in Washington — or another rubber stamp for the MAGA agenda.

That’s why we have to set up Minnesota to have a fighting chance at beating back the extremism running our country into the ground.

This race is too important to let Republicans have it without a fight. And that’s why I’m asking for your help right now.

We are in the final stretch of this race, and 16% of Minnesota voters are still undecided and not sure who to vote for. I need your help to reach those people, so Minnesota gets the fighting chance it deserves to reject Trump and his MAGA agenda.
