A place can become so photographed that it starts to disappear.
Not literally.
Just beneath the weight of its own image.
The County has become very good at documenting itself.
The vineyards.
The lake views.
The weekend rituals.
The things we’re supposed to find beautiful.
But every place has a supporting cast.
The overlooked details. Max Hart Barnwell has been paying close attention to those things.
The strange remnants.
On & Off Main opens July 2 at House of Falconer.
A photography exhibition about Picton @houseoffalconer
Or maybe about what happens when a place becomes an idea of itself.
July 2
4–8pm
House of Falconer
No RSVP.
Max Hart Barnwell is a Montreal-based photographer working exclusively in analog 35mm. No editing. No second takes. Just 36 frames and whatever the world offers back.
His photographs linger on the overlooked: a sign, a tree, a box left at the curb. The ordinary details most of us pass without noticing.
On & Off Main brings that eye to Picton — a place Barnwell has been returning to for more than a decade. What emerges is not a portrait of the County’s landmarks, but of its supporting cast: the small, peculiar, often-forgotten details that give a place its character.
This is your invitation.
On July 2nd, House of Falconer opens its doors for one evening — and we’d love for you to walk through them.
1 Walton st. Picton.
Come meet Max Hart Barnwell. See On & Off Main in the space it was made for. Wander the rooms, take in the work, and linger as long as you like.
It’s that kind of evening. Unhurried. A glass of Grange Almanac Series wine in hand, something to nibble on, good people to meet. The kind of gathering where the conversation flows as naturally as the pour.
No agenda. No ticket. Just show up.
July 2nd, 4–8pm · House of Falconer, Picton One night only. All welcome.
