It’s the little things… Two images from my long ago Mulholland Drive (life &) collection, The Beatles at Candlestick, 1966 by the legendary Jim Marshall and photojournalist Antonín Kratochvíl‘s Communion Procession, Poland, 1992 — are back where they belong, with me in my two-room stone house in Alta Irpinia.

From 6750 M Drive to 21 via Fontana — what was past is now future.

With deep gratitude to the custodian(s) who held them for lo these many years 🤍

The b/w photo hanging above them is by your’s truly — POV of zia Concetta’s house on via Fontana, circa 2003, and the very rooms where I now live. Full circle.

Apropos, or no, I have been reading Patrick Joyce’s two narrative memoirs — Remembering Peasants & Going to My Father’s House, both published by Scribner, in which he lays out the significance of communion girls like these in procession, hidden in the woods, and why, amid vanishing (vanquished) peasant life. Highly recommend. So does Annie Proulx…
