(SOO-ser-us and SOO-shur-a-shun). I ran across this word in a Dean Koontz novel and fell in love with it. Susurration refers to whispering, murmuring, or rustling sounds, like the susurrous sound of wind in fallen leaves or the gurgle of a rippling brook. A susurrous sound is soothing, if that helps you remember how to pronounce it. It’s a lovely and useful word to evoke a feeling in a place.
