Every decision we make causes us to branch into a slightly different direction. Had you taken that one job, married that other person, gotten into that accident, or moved to another state… life would have turned out completely different.
You would have met a different combination of people. Your health. Your finances. Your outlook on life. ALL of it may have contained variations from the path you ended up taking. So, right now, somewhere out there in the world is a wide array of yous that never quite became. We never had a chance to see how that version of you may have turned out. Perhaps some of those versions became rich. Or poor. Or famous. Or forgotten. Some might be just as happy as you currently are. We’ll never know because life (as we see it) only allows us to live one life path at a time.
But what if every other version of you still exists… somehow, in some way, on some plane of existence? Think of it as an alternate timeline or a slightly different dimension. What if it was possible to see those versions of you? The truth is that some of us do. We catch glimpses of these alternate timelines through our dreams.
If you’re ever lucky (or unlucky) enough to glimpse an alternate timeline of your life, it will likely be quite memorable. They tend to be vivid and hyper-realistic. They also induce strong emotions, because our soul recognizes it’s part of our story - the hidden story of what never became (or the alternate ending to life, if you wish to think of this in movie terms).
Regardless, it’s interesting stuff. Just the other night, I had one of these dreams.
