Forget checking boxes and chasing postcard views. If you really want to understand Italy, follow the cheese. Every wheel tells a story about the land, the people and the traditions that have shaped it for centuries.
I love to travel. I love lots of places. Lots. And I use a hundred guideposts that dictate where, when and how I travel.
Skiing and food? Japan.
Beach getaways off the grid? Greece...or Samoa.
Family adventure with some great beach hangs, fishing and nature? Costa Rica.
You get the picture.
So I was thinking about how to show you a different way to see a country. And I love Italy. If you’re like me, you’re inundated with pictures, texts and social media filled with Italian summer fun. So what if I showed you a different way to see Italy?
You can do it in summer and end up on a beach in the south. Or visit during the shoulder seasons, when there are fewer people to fight for restaurant reservations. See Italy through cheese.
Italian itineraries get built around the same obsessions: food, wine, museums and which coastline photographs best at golden hour. That’s the old algorithm.
Cheese is the ingredient that tells you where you are in Italy. Geology, grass, altitude and a few centuries of local grit all compressed into a wheel. Nobody markets a cheese trail here the way the French sell wine country or the Scots sell whisky.
So here are twelve stops, north to south, islands included.
Twelve stops. Twelve cheeses. One country.
Pack your stretchy pants.
