Let me start with something that will probably make a lot of people uncomfortable.
If your beauty routine requires chemical burns, UV radiation, endocrine disruptors, and toxins banned in other countries, it is not beauty.
It is slow self-poisoning.
And women have been convinced to pay hundreds of dollars a month for it.
I’m a Tahoe mountain girl. I grew up around pine trees, lake water, sunshine, and people who actually paid attention to what they put in their bodies. I grew up around nature and faith and the understanding that God designed our bodies to function naturally.
So when I walk into a modern nail salon or cosmetics store today, I do not see beauty.
I see a chemical factory.
And the fact that almost no one wants to talk about this while cancer rates continue to climb is insane.
The Gel Manicure Trend That Should Terrify Women
Let’s start with gel nails because this is one of the most bizarre beauty trends of the last decade.
Anyone who has had gel nails knows the process.
First they file your natural nail down to almost nothing, grinding away the protective layer.
Then they coat it in synthetic chemicals.
Then your hands go under a UV lamp to cure the gel.
The routine involves:
• Mechanical damage to your nail bed
• Open skin cuts around your fingers
• Direct chemical exposure
• Repeated UV radiation
All for the sake of shiny nails.
And yes, the UV lamps matter.
A study published in Nature Communications found that UV nail dryers can damage DNA and cause mutations in human cells, similar to tanning beds. Researchers observed mitochondrial and DNA damage in human skin cells exposed to UV nail lamps.
Ohio State University researchers have also warned that UVA exposure from nail lamps can contribute to skin aging and potentially increase skin cancer risk with chronic exposure.
Harvard Health notes that while the risk may be low for occasional use, the lamps still emit UVA radiation, the same spectrum associated with skin damage and carcinogenesis.
In other words, we created a beauty ritual that literally bombards your hands with radiation.
And women repeat it every couple of weeks while paying outrageous prices for it.
The Toxic Chemicals Sitting On Your Nails
Radiation is only part of the story.
Many nail products contain what researchers call the “toxic trio”:
• Formaldehyde
• Toluene
• Dibutyl phthalate (DBP)
Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen linked to cancers of the nose, throat, and blood according to the U.S. National Cancer Institute.
DBP is an endocrine disruptor that interferes with hormone systems and has been restricted in cosmetics in the European Union.
Toluene has been associated with reproductive toxicity and neurological harm.
Even more disturbing, studies have found that products labeled “3-free” still contained measurable amounts of these chemicals.
Now imagine applying those substances to a nail bed that has just been filed thin and cut open around the edges.
Your skin is not armor.
Your skin absorbs.
Europe Is Already Sounding the Alarm
If you think concern around gel nails is just internet chatter, think again.
Europe has already started regulating key chemicals used in gel manicures.
In 2025, the European Union restricted the ingredient trimethylbenzoyl diphenylphosphine oxide (TPO), widely used in gel nail systems as a photoinitiator that helps the gel harden under UV light.
Regulators classified the chemical as a CMR substance meaning carcinogenic, mutagenic, or toxic to reproduction.
That is not a fringe claim. It is an official regulatory classification used when chemicals show evidence of serious health risks.
Public discussion exploded online once people realized what was happening.
One viral post from @MJTruthUltra warned women directly:
“Any ladies use Gel Nail Polish? It was just banned in Europe for being highly cancerous, causing great harm to women’s fertility. The European Union banned the key ingredient trimethylbenzoyl diphenylphosphine oxide. It remains legal in the U.S.”
Another widely shared post from @BioavailableNd said:
“As of Sept 1, 2025 Europe banned TPO, making most gel manicures illegal. It is deemed toxic for humans increasing the risk of infertility.”
Even mainstream outlets began discussing the issue.
A post from @NewsHour explained the regulatory difference clearly:
“The EU banned one of the key ingredients in gel nail polish after it was classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic, or toxic to reproduction.”
Europe uses a hazard-based approach.
If a chemical shows signs it could cause cancer, reproductive harm, or genetic damage, regulators restrict it.
The United States uses a risk-based approach, often waiting until harm is proven at specific exposure levels.
In other words, Europe frequently removes questionable chemicals earlier, while Americans are told to wait.
That alone should make every woman stop and think.
Toxic Chemicals Are Everywhere in Nail Products
Gel nail chemicals are only part of the problem.
The Environmental Working Group has identified toxic substances in more than 1,500 nail products sold to consumers.
One viral post from @TinaZimmermann4 summarized the concern bluntly:
“TOXIC NAILS. The EWG found toxins in over 1,500 nail products.”
Step back and look at the process logically.
You are:
• Filing down your natural nail
• Opening small cuts around your fingers
• Applying chemicals onto exposed tissue
• Then curing it with UV radiation
At a certain point the beauty routine starts to look more like a laboratory experiment.
When the Beauty Trend Starts Looking Like a Health Experiment
If these chemicals are safe, why are nail technicians wearing masks?
Why do salons install ventilation systems?
Why are workers protecting themselves from the dust and fumes?
Because the chemicals are strong.
Yet customers are told it is perfectly normal.
This is how the beauty industry operates.
It convinces women that harmful practices are glamorous.
Until years later when the consequences appear.
Just like tanning beds.
Just like lead makeup.
Once you see it, you cannot unsee it.
Nail Salon Workers Are Living in the Exposure
Look at the workers.
Nail technicians spend entire days in rooms filled with chemical dust and solvent fumes.
That is why salons rely on:
• Industrial ventilation systems
• Dust collectors
• Protective masks
• Safety goggles
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration warns that nail salon workers are exposed to formaldehyde, toluene, acetone, and other solvents that damage the lungs and nervous system and may increase long-term cancer risk.
If workers need protection to survive eight hours of exposure, every woman should pause before coating her own body with those same chemicals.
The beauty industry has normalized something that, in any other context, would look like a laboratory experiment.
The Beauty Industry Is Really a Chemical Industry
Most people think cosmetics are about beauty.
In reality they are about chemistry.
Modern personal care products are part of a massive global chemical industry worth hundreds of billions of dollars.
Many products contain endocrine disrupting chemicals that interfere with hormone signaling in the body.
The Endocrine Society warns that compounds such as parabens, phthalates, and bisphenols can mimic or block hormones like estrogen and testosterone.
Women experience far greater exposure simply because of the number of products marketed to them.
Hair spray.
Foundation.
Lipstick.
Perfume.
Shampoo.
Lotion.
Deodorant.
Soap.
Nail polish.
All of it adds up.
Women are not exposed to one chemical.
They are exposed to hundreds.
Every day.
For decades.
Makeup and Cosmetics Are Toxic
The nail industry is only one part of a much larger problem.
Modern cosmetics often contain:
• Parabens
• Phthalates
• Heavy metals such as lead and cadmium
Parabens mimic estrogen and have been detected in breast tumor tissue in some studies.
Phthalates disrupt hormone balance and have been linked to reproductive and breast health concerns.
Heavy metals have been detected in lipstick and foundation. A Canadian health study found cadmium in more than half of tested makeup products.
These compounds accumulate in the body over time.
And many women apply dozens of products every single day.
Tanning Beds and Fake Tanning Are Another Beauty Lie
For years women were told tanning beds were safe.
Now we know better.
The World Health Organization classifies tanning beds as Group 1 carcinogens, the same category as tobacco.
Indoor tanning significantly increases melanoma risk, especially when exposure begins young.
According to the American Academy of Dermatology, indoor tanning can increase melanoma risk by up to 75 percent when started early.
Yet tanning salons were once everywhere.
Another beauty trend that later revealed serious health risks.
The Beauty Industry Has Done This Before
None of this is new.
History is full of beauty standards that harmed women in the name of fashion.
In ancient China, women bound their feet so tightly that the bones broke and reshaped. The practice lasted for centuries because tiny feet were considered beautiful.
In Victorian Europe and America, women wore corsets so tight that their ribs compressed and organs shifted. Doctors documented fainting spells, breathing problems, and long term internal damage.
Queen Elizabeth I famously wore white face makeup made from lead-based cosmetics. The mixture slowly poisoned her skin. Historical accounts describe sores and lesions forming under layers of toxic makeup.
Don’t get me started on how wealthy beautiful women weren’t supposed to be strong and tanned by the sun.. I could write thousands of pages on how all of the above “beauty” standards tie into that nonsense. But I digress…
At the time, women were told these practices were glamorous.
They were told it was normal.
They were told it was beautiful.
Only later did people recognize the damage.
Today we like to think we are more enlightened.
But look around.
Women are still filing down their nails and covering exposed tissue with chemicals.
Still sitting under UV lamps.
Still inhaling cosmetic dust and solvents.
Still coating their skin in hormone-disrupting chemicals.
The pattern has not changed.
The packaging just looks more modern.
And the poison now comes in a sleek bottle with a luxury label.
Artificial Food and the Slow Poisoning of America
Cosmetics are only half the problem.
What we eat matters just as much.
The modern American diet is dominated by ultra-processed foods, refined sugar, artificial dyes, and chemical additives that are restricted or labeled differently in many other countries.
Artificial dyes such as Red 40, Yellow 5, and Yellow 6 have been linked to behavioral changes in children.
High sugar consumption contributes to chronic inflammation and metabolic disease, both linked to increased cancer risk.
When you step back and look at the bigger picture, the reality becomes obvious.
We are surrounded by chemicals.
In our food.
In our homes.
On our skin.
Then we act surprised when chronic disease rises.
The GRAS Scam and Why MAHA Needs to Stop Dragging Its Feet
If we are going to talk honestly about the chemical exposure destroying American health, we cannot ignore one of the biggest regulatory failures in modern history.
The GRAS list.
GRAS stands for “Generally Recognized As Safe.”
It sounds comforting.
It sounds scientific.
In reality, the system is riddled with loopholes that have allowed thousands of chemicals into the American food supply with shockingly little oversight.
Under the federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, substances can be classified as GRAS if experts conclude they are safe based on scientific evidence or historical use before 1958.
But here is the part most Americans never hear.
Companies are often allowed to self-affirm that their chemical is GRAS.
That means a corporation can hire its own experts, review its own data, and decide its own product is safe without ever notifying the FDA.
Let that sink in.
The same industries that profit from selling chemical additives are allowed to decide those additives are safe.
This loophole has been criticized for years by public health researchers who say it allows unvetted chemicals to enter the food supply without meaningful government review.
And it helps explain why the United States has been far slower than Europe to remove toxic substances.
The European Union follows something called the precautionary principle.
If a chemical appears likely to cause cancer, reproductive harm, or genetic damage, regulators restrict it until it is proven safe.
The United States does the opposite.
We assume chemicals are safe until the damage is undeniable.
That difference is staggering.
The EU has banned or restricted more than 1,300 cosmetic ingredients linked to cancer, endocrine disruption, or reproductive harm.
The United States FDA has banned only 11.
That gap is not science.
It is policy.
And it is policy heavily influenced by corporate lobbying and regulatory inertia.
The situation is not much better in food.
The Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976 effectively grandfathered in more than 62,000 chemicals without modern safety reviews.
Many of those substances remain in circulation today.
So when Americans ask why Europe bans chemicals years before we do, the answer is simple.
Our regulatory system often waits until people are already sick.
Now this is where the frustration starts.
Because the Make America Healthy Again movement was supposed to change this.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has spent years warning about toxic exposures, chemical additives, and regulatory capture.
And to his credit, there have been discussions about reforming the GRAS system.
The FDA is now exploring a rule that would eliminate the self-affirmed GRAS loophole and require companies to notify the agency before introducing new substances.
That is a step in the right direction.
But it is not enough.
Not when thousands of chemicals are already circulating through our food, cosmetics, and consumer products.
Not when endocrine disruptors are everywhere.
Not when chronic illness is exploding in the United States.
This moment requires bold action.
It requires a full reassessment of the GRAS list.
It requires removing substances linked to cancer, reproductive harm, and endocrine disruption.
It requires adopting a regulatory mindset that protects people before the damage is done, not decades later.
The MAHA movement cannot claim to fight chronic disease while ignoring the chemical soup Americans are living in.
Food additives.
Cosmetic chemicals.
Endocrine disruptors.
Industrial agriculture.
Environmental toxins.
These issues are connected.
And if we are serious about Making America Healthy Again, then we cannot tiptoe around the industries responsible.
The public is waking up.
People are reading ingredient labels.
They are questioning the safety of what is in their food and what they put on their bodies.
What they are waiting for now is leadership.
Because if MAHA is going to live up to its name, it cannot move slowly.
It needs to move like the health of the country depends on it.
Because it does.
Returning to Nature Is Not Radical
I grew up in Lake Tahoe.
Mountains. Pine trees. Clean air.
People who understood something modern society has forgotten.
The closer you live to nature, the healthier you are.
God did not design human beings to live inside a cloud of synthetic chemicals.
We were designed to eat real food.
To breathe fresh air.
To live in sunlight and natural rhythms. (Stop the sunblock and sunglasses! More on that coming…)
Artificial lifestyles are not progress.
The body eventually pays the price.
The Simple Solution No One Wants To Hear
The solution is not complicated.
Stop poisoning yourself.
Eat real food. (No nutrition labels!)
Stop consuming artificial dyes.
Stop eating sugar.
Stop coating your skin with toxic chemicals.
Open the windows.
Use natural products.
Get sunlight and fresh air.
Your body was not designed by a marketing department.
It was designed by God.
Nature already gave us what we need.
Clean food.
Clean water.
Clean air.
The further we move away from that, the sicker we become.
A Message to Women
You do not need fake nails.
You do not need chemical sprays.
You do not need toxic beauty rituals.
Your body is not a laboratory experiment.
Walk outside.
Touch the earth. Take off your shoes and ground.
Eat food with no nutrition labels.
Live in a way that honors the body God gave you.
Because real beauty does not come from a salon.
It comes from health.
And health comes from nature.
MAHA Needs to Step Up
If we are serious about Making America Healthy Again, then we need to start talking about the chemical soup we are living in.
The Make America Healthy Again movement has correctly identified many of the problems destroying public health in this country.
Ultra-processed food.
Artificial dyes.
Industrial agriculture.
Toxic additives.
Corporate capture of regulatory agencies.
All of those issues matter.
But we cannot stop at food.
We also have to confront the beauty and personal care industry, which quietly exposes millions of women to chemicals every single day.
Nail products.
Hair dyes.
Cosmetics.
Lotions.
Fragrances.
Cleaning products.
These industries operate under regulatory systems that are shockingly weak compared to many other countries.
In the United States, thousands of chemicals are allowed in cosmetics with minimal safety review. In contrast, the European Union has banned or restricted over a thousand substances from cosmetic use.
If the MAHA movement is going to be serious about protecting Americans, especially women, then this issue cannot be ignored.
Where is the push to investigate endocrine disruptors in cosmetics?
Where is the push to examine long-term chemical exposure from beauty products?
Where is the push to protect nail salon workers who are breathing these fumes every day?
This should not be controversial.
It should be common sense.
Women deserve transparency.
Consumers deserve honest safety standards.
And workers deserve protection from toxic exposure.
If we are truly going to Make America Healthy Again, then the conversation has to expand beyond food labels.
It has to include everything we put in our bodies and on our bodies.
Because health is not just about what you eat.
It is about the environment you live in every single day.
