Now & Later: Three Fall Staples

We used to do this story at Lucky, and I’m pretty sure we invented it! It’s easier to wear spring in the winter (hello layers), and it was always kind of a challenge to do this one because who is wearing real fall stuff like sweaters and wool skirts when it’s 80 degrees outside? But I think these pieces can slip into your wardrobe as we speak, and then, of course, the whole rest of the year.

So first we’ll take a fall-perfect 100% cotton Zara plaid shirt, and wear it now at the beach over a high-waist bikini, with a raffia tote for all your stuff, easy summer slides, and spectacular snake hoops, because why not (and definitely take them into fall with you), Later you can throw it over plaid wool trousers for a nice complementary clash, some classic derbies, a good leather tote, and cool aviator glasses (should you need them).

And now for a pair of classic cords to wear right this minute with a simple white tee (my go-to with everything lately), suede sandals (good with whatever you can think of), a fun handwoven green bag (an extra 40% off at checkout), and tortoise shades. Wear them later with a bright red shirt (just right with tan and brown), an oversized suede blazer, perfect cowboy booties, and a really chic shoulder bag.

And, of course, we could all use some good ankle boots that you can absolutely rock now with a simple slip dress, a pretty bra that’s meant to be shown, a sculptural silver cuff by Ten Thousand Things (a true work of art—I adore mine), and Zara’s new scarf bag that I just added to my repertoire. Later on, wear them as you always do in the crisp weather, with cropped jeans and a chunky sweater, then maybe a bohemian signet ring (this one celebrates Aphrodite, but there are way more goddesses available!), and a classic, everyday leather satchel (great little boxy shape).
