Just a quick visual break from summer

54 Vogue September Covers Pulled From the Archive | Vogue
The tome of the year featuring Naomi Campbell on her first Vogue cover, Sept 1989

We’ve all been conditioned to pore over photos of new jackets, boots, and knitwear while we’re still hanging around in the blistering heat, dreaming of those crisp fall days and the new looks that go with them. So even though sweaters are the last thing I want to put on right now, I’m thinking ahead and found this Buck Mason thermal cardigan that hits right at the waist and is really giving Marc Jacobs S/S ‘98 vibes.

This geometric check print slip dress just dropped, and I love the way they styled it here, but of course, we can all wear it now as the perfect summer piece (with a shoe like this?).

There is no way any of us are letting wool touch our thighs right now, but let’s picture these cropped trousers with sandals before it gets too cold, and then a good ankle boot or something like this (code: ANDREA20) with socks when it does (these are really good, and on a buy-3-get-3 special).

Toast’s charming plaid bag feels very fall-worthy, but it’s made from waxed cotton, so no reason not to lug it around right away!

I’m crazy about Madewell’s sweet pointelle Sweater Tee that feels very ‘70s-French (especially with some high-waisted jeans and a pair of these).

Ah, the wonderful back-to-school issue. Seventeen magazine, August 1979. Model Phoebe Cates pictured here in the "Kick off the School Year" layout.
Oh, the excitement of the back-to-school issue!

You might not be in the market for a classic blazer, but the high collar, absence of lapel, and cropped shape of this kicky little plaid jacket make it feel like something completely new.

And if you’re looking for a chic back-to-school loafer that has forever feels, look no further.

This thin-knit dress is giving major old-school Calvin vibes, right down to the perfect camel shade and super-skinny belt. I would add a tissue-thin turtleneck and my favorite knee-high boots as soon as weather permits.

I have located the perfect Audrey Hepburn sweater at Vince—such a cool, beatnik-y neck, and it’s cashmere. What’s not to love?

You can soon wear these tweedy Chanel-y Mary Janes with bare feet, and then thin socks or tights later on (also, subtly cool heel!).

And, lastly, would it be a season of turning leaves and apple picking without a new pair of cords? (in the best shade of cinnamon, I might add)
