Hey Story Lovers,

At 6 a.m. last Saturday, just hours after the dictator of Venezuela was captured by the U.S. military, my family (Vicky’s side) was celebrating. Hours later, I saw my progressive friends protesting on Facebook. I knew so little about Venezuela before marrying Vicky and at that moment I saw how politics can play out, sometimes at the expense of knowledge. I wrote about it that day and sent it to USA Today.

So much has changed, even in one week. Trump is as erratic as ever and my family’s elation is now mixed with anxiety, but still hope. I understand, and I’ve read this in a bunch of places, that it’s possible to cheer for the possibility of regime change in Venezuela and also, at the same time, criticize Trump for ignoring U.S. and international law and what looks like empire building.

The Avila in Caracas, Venezuela

Come write with me this Saturday. We’ll be talking about the strategic self, which is the I character that you create as the narrator. The I character does not have to express every side of yourself. It’s a selective portrayal based on the story you’re trying to tell. All levels welcome.
