2026 has been one rollercoaster ride of emotional soul searching.

Questions such as “do I kick Substack and Medium to the kerb”, “should I focus my efforts on writing fiction”, “should I focus more on YouTube and forget about Substack and Medium”, and “should I completely focus my efforts on an offline niche” are bouncing around my nogging most days.

The truth is, with AI and sleazy marketing methods, I have lost a lot of my love for the ‘make money online’ and ‘internet marketing’ world which I have been involved in on-and-off since 2011.

AI Is Napalming The Internet Marketing Jungle

I personally believe that the world of internet marketing and information publishing is going to be dominated by AI and that selling PDFs and courses will become virtually an obsolete industry.

Yes, some people will still sell PDFs and do well, but there is going to be a strong human and visual angle with that.

A woman selling images of her feet in her own self-published PDF newsletter may still do well, but those people trying to sell ‘how to do XYZ’ PDFs will lose out to AI giving that information away for free.

I mean, I go to Google and ask a basic question and their AI tool tells me all that I need to know.

I no longer need to visit any specific website or information publisher to get the information.

It’s there in front of me within a second or two.

Why the hell would I need to buy a PDF when AI will give it to me for free?

A lot of people now no longer ‘Google it’, they ‘Claude it’ or ‘Chat GPT it’!

They go directly to AI for answers.

Mark my words, that industry is dying a painful death. AI is strangling the last breath out of it.

Video Killed The Writing Star!

The reasons for writing this newsletter are:

1. To keep publishing something to Substack and Medium (like I say, I regularly question whether it is right for me, whether I should swap to writing fiction and see how that works out, or whether I should completely stop and do something else).

2. To tell you about what I am pivoting towards.

As I have said numerous times before and in this newsletter, AI is changing the world of internet marketing and information publishing, and I believe that people need to start working on what I call OOHBs (Offline Online Hybrid Businesses).

I am currently working on one and as part of that I am creating videos to put onto YouTube and Facebook.

I am also creating reels and videos for a client, I am creating a series of videos for another project (I shall reveal all soon), and have in the past created numerous videos for other projects.

Soooooo…

I am thinking of focusing heavily on video marketing and potentially pivoting from writing articles and newsletters to creating more video and possibly specialising it.

It makes sense in my mind.

I am also in the final planning stage for another YouTube channel which is going to be mostly AI generated content. (I shall reveal all soon.)

My YouTube Challenge

I am going to challenge myself to create a new YouTube channel in a specific niche and to use AI to generate videos (mostly for listening to) for a whole year and see if I can get it monetised and generate enough to pay for my rent each month.

As you may know, I am not a huge fan of AI, but it is the way of the world and everyone else is using it without giving a fuck about anyone else, so why shouldn’t I?

This is an experiment and also part of the pivoting from a writing star to a video superstar… potentially!

Yes, there are also selfish personal reasons involved, I admit it.

I want to replace my last couple of paid clients and want to generate the money I earn from them with something a little less laborious.

Plus, they both happily use AI and have replaced paid human work with using free AI tools and so I know that as soon as they can they will get rid of me, and so why shouldn’t I use their precious AI tools to fuck em off?!

What I have in mind is actually going to be quite simple to create and does have a lot of potential.

Whether I can make it work or not, that is the question… but I shall give it a pretty good go.

I plan to do at least one video per week for a whole year and see where I am in 12 months time.

Documenting My Challenge

I shall document everything I do as I go along because it will become content for a potential community around ‘video creation’.

I know AI plays a big part in video creation these days and could soon dominate it but the way I see it is:

1. There will always be people wanting to create videos.

2. There are many different kinds of videos from talking face to AI generated.

3. Millions of people consume video on multiple platforms.

4. Social media platforms love video. They favour it over images and written content.

And so I can only conclude that video is not going anywhere anytime soon.

I enjoy working with video and it can actually reach more people than an article on Substack and Medium unless you already have an established large following.

So yeah, that is where I am going.

I don’t necessarily want to stop writing and publishing to Substack and Medium, but currently I am not seeing it being worth my time and effort.

My time and energy could be better placed working on video.

We shall see what the next few months throw at me.
