There is a version of dressing that a lot of us plus size women were taught before we even knew we were being taught it. Dress to disappear. Dress to soften the parts of you the world already decided were too much. Cover the arms. Skim the stomach. Never, under any circumstances, be seen in something that says “I know I look good and I am not sorry about it.”
That is apology dressing and it’s not at all about style. It’s about pre negotiating your own visibility so nobody else has to do the work of looking away. (F*ck them folks!)
