We’ve been spending lots of time in the car this summer with our boys — going on nearby adventures or longer road trips — so I thought I’d create a roundup of our favorite forms of entertainment when the kids are squabbling in the back and need a little extra something to keep spirits high.
These are items that have earned their spot in our carry-on, day pack, church tote, etc. They are small but mighty and do plenty of heavy-lifting when trying to keep kids quiet during church, on flights, restaurants, etc. I like to have a couple of these stashed away at all times for when I’m needing a little extra help :)
I love this one by Richard Scary — plenty of stickers as well as activities to stimulate the brain a bit more

These ocean sticker books are another favorite of the boys
Magnetic wood blocks — I love these travel-sized magnetic blocks because pieces are a lot less likely to fall underneath the table when at a restaurant, etc.
Go fish card game — the illustrations on this particular set are really sweet
Monster Trucks — I’ve done a complete 180 on these plastic figurines. They are a toy that gets a lot of mileage out of them. We’ve taken them everywhere from hikes to airports and everything between. I love them because they are an instant connector with other kids (we usually bring a couple extras to share with kids at the park), and they entertain for hours on hours. Endless ramp and flip opportunities
Yoto Mini. Our favorite starter pack is the Julia Donaldson one
Magnetic book. I love this one for flights because it fits perfectly on the tray table
