I cannot believe it’s been nearly one year of film photo club! Writing the title of this post caught me off guard as I feel like I just started these a few months ago (time flies!). If you’ve been up to date on this series, I’d love to hear what have been your favorite focuses and see your work in the chat. What did you find helpful, or challenging? In what ways have you grown as a creative in the past 11 months?
When I first started creating content, I started with digital photography— which I loved. A couple of years later, I started exploring film photography when I felt my growth with digital had plateaued and the time behind a screen editing so many images became increasingly taxing. Film photography scratched the itch for me to continue growing as a photographer and discover something a bit outside of my comfort zone.
I’m starting to get that itch again— to tackle something new and unfamiliar. Something that feels new and daunting, but also exciting. That feeling of curiosity is what launched my journey as a content creator and is one I try to keep close to.
Lately that feeling has been pulling me towards videography. I’m still early in the process, figuring out what kind of work I want to create - whether that’s more organic and observational or more editorial and story-boarded. Finding my style as a videographer is a process that will probably take months, if not years. There are lots of unknowns here and I’m a new baby in beginner land— but that’s the beauty of this process. Just taking one step forward at a time.

Here’s how I plan to tackle this month’s focus:
My ultimate goal is to bring together a cohesive blend of my creative work: both stills and motion, all analog. I’d love to bring my video skills up to the same level of confidence I have when I pick up my film camera.
Creating and editing a full 3-minute video feels incredibly daunting at the moment, so I’m going to focus on capturing short clips on my Super8, along with sound clips to edit together with the video— similar to these vibes, but through an analog lens. It’s a baby step but it feels like a step in the right direction for me.
