Painter’s Point

We took a long-weekend trip to California last month to celebrate David’s birthday! We broke our trip into two sections— the first couple days on the Monterey Peninsula and Big Sur, then a drive north to Tomales Bay for a few more nights.

Bixby Creek Bridge
  • Painter’s Point

  • Bixby Creek Bridge

  • Henry Miller Memorial Library

  • McWay Falls

  • Beach foraging at the Great Tide Pool

  • Sunset board walk at Asilomar State Park

  • Wildlife spotting at Point Lobos

  • Pastries at Mad Dogs & Englishmen

  • Lunch at Earthbound Farm Stand

  • Exploring the Monterey Bay Aquarium

Our final two nights were spent in Tomales Bay at Nick’s Cove— a boutique hotel that’s been on my bucket list for a couple years now. This area felt sleepier than the first area - the drive in winds through pastures of happy cows grazing on hills and few tourists - definitely the travel speed I gravitate towards these days.

We stayed at Bandits Bungalow, which was the perfect size for our family of 4, and right on the water. We ordered room service a few times to enjoyed on our balcony which was so memorable
Point Reyes lighthouse
  • Point Reyes Lighthouse and the view over South Beach

  • Beach hopping: our favorites were Drake’s and Limantour

  • Eating at Nick’s Cove— they have a restaurant open to the public so you don’t need to be a guest to stop by! Our favorites were the oysters, clam chowder, and Straus soft serve ice cream

Thanks for reading— happy travels!
