My God speaks!

“God…has in these last days spoken to us by His Son.” (Hebrews 1:2, NKJV)

God…has…spoken.

I have read that verse a thousand times, but the other day, it struck me in a whole new light.

God, the Creator of the universe, the One who is infinitely above us and who we cannot even begin to understand, has come down and spoken to us.

He speaks, not in some mystical way that only religious elite can understand, but He speaks to ordinary humans using our own language.

What an unfathomable, precious truth it is that Almighty God would take on Himself human flesh, live in a world marred with sin, and speak to us.

What an honour we consider it to be if a person of high rank takes the time to have a conversation with us.

We don’t expect such a person to have time to look at us, let alone speak to us.

But the King of kings speaks to you and to me. We can listen to Him every day by simply opening the Bible.

Contemplating this truth has deepened my appreciation for words and for my own work as a writer.

Christian writers serve the God who uses words to communicate. We serve the God who created language and who has used language to show us Himself.

What a privilege it is to be ambassadors for the God who speaks. To use the gift of language to communicate His truth.

In all our wildest dreams, we could never hope to come near to the excellence of God’s Word with our own words.

But as Christians, we have the precious Word of God to guide us as we form our own stuttering sentences. We have the Holy Spirit to help us understand the Word He has given us.

I am a weak human. My best sentences often seem like the stammering of a baby learning to talk.

But my God speaks.

And my God can take even my words and use them to stir hearts.

Surrender your words to your Lord. Listen to Him.

And keep writing!
