Happy Friday the 13th! To celebrate Valentine’s Day, we’re going to a community theater production of The Last Five Years and I am very excited.
My last day off was January 1. I started this new full-time job January 5. I finished writing another novel (for a preorder deadline) on January 25 and then immediately jumped into a copy edit for a client. I’m giving myself 2 weeks off extra work (“only” doing my new 40-hour day job), and then I have to get to writing the book for April release.
Send good vibes. It’s a miracle I found time to read at all this last month, but I suspect the forcing myself to make time for books and movies in the evening is what has saved me from fully crashing out these last few years.
Stand with Minnesota : “Across Minnesota, ICE continues to stop, harass, and detain people regardless of their citizenship status. Normal life in Minnesota has been interrupted, as schools have been forced to close or go virtual, as people live in fear of leaving their homes or going to work. Minnesotans are organized and activated to respond to this violence. But they need our help. This directory of places to donate to all comes from activists on the ground, plugged into the situation.”
AI Inevitability, Acceptance and Rape Culture : “I’m about to pull back the mask on some really ugly stuff that’s being normalized, and I’ll do my best to break down why it’s so ugly. My guess is that most people reading this will have felt a little bit of repulsion the first time they encountered this argument, but they might be growing numb to that enlightening repulsion through repeated exposure.”
Men Who Want Women That Remind Them of Children : “I didn’t feel older so much as awake. What I now recognized was a kind of hushed reverence reserved for women who hadn’t yet learned the final rule of the room: when everything comes to you for free, it’s because you are the product.”
Males are the Secondary Sex : “Males play a secondary role across species. It’s very easy to observe. In bee populations, the males do their work, then abruptly get kicked out. Once their contribution is complete, they no longer offer anything of value to the community, so they’re removed in order for the community to thrive. Male lions are known as the king of the jungle, but it’s a myth. The lionesses are the consistent and central figures in the pride, while the male’s power is limited.”
A cross-country roadtrip to U.S. Presidential Libraries : I would love to do this. Add in some presidential birthplaces and such too? Amy loves history.
WATCHING :
GLOW S3 ; No Other Choice* (very dark and very funny); After Hours* (in honor of Catherine O’Hara); The Testament of Ann Lee (loved this. Such a unique vision); The Voice of Hind Rajab (absolutely incredible and heartbreaking); Wake Up Dead Man (I hope he keeps making these movies forever)
READING :
Meet Me At the Lake*1 (god, romances are so good, so comforting); Dear Writer, Are You in Burnout?* (why, yes. Yes, I am); The Hallmarked Man* (good option for my reading slump2)

I would bet money the author had Jacob Elordi in mind when she wrote the male main character
But when I read these books I can’t help but want to try out my British accents, since she writes in dialect. That cats look at me funny.
