If you follow me on other platforms, you know I am on the hunt for the next generation of leaders in the United States. I’ve been interviewing and learning about the election process all over the country and I do mean all over the country.
I host a podcast called The Foolish Optimist. It’s from a larger quote from Franklin Roosevelt’s first inaugural address. He says something like, only a foolish optimist would disregard the present situation we’re in.
It’s the Great Depression. One in four Americans are out of work. People are selling their children, taking their own lives, losing their homes, and the United States is a bleak place. Now Franklin Roosevelt is by no means perfect. He led the way in putting Japanese Americans in internment camps. He was racist beyond belief and under his leadership HUD created segregation where there was none. I am under no allusions of that, but he did something that most Americans are dreaming of right now. He found a way to create the American dream, specifically for the white middle class.
But I think it’s high time we hunt for someone to do the same for the next fifty years of the United States. So I am doing just that. I am desperate for a leader that will change the course of our country. Who will lead the way in rooting out discrimination in this system we have and that’s a generational task. That will take time, but luckily for us, midterms are right around the corner and we have leaders ready, willing, and able to take on that task.
This week on The Foolish Optimist, we’re talking to two people. Kelly Kicksies of the Civic Roadshow and Mike DeCillis running in New York’s 11th Congressional District.
The podcast focuses on both candidates and people behind the candidates.
I’ve found a handful of candidates that I truly believe are the real deal. Mike DeCillis fits that bill. As does Melissa Bird in Oregon. Salaam Bhatti in Virginia. Lexy Doherty in Georgia. Candice Duvielh in Alabama. Robert People in Florida. Jeromie Whalen in Massachusetts. Ashley Bell in North Carolina. Just to name a few.
I’m on the hunt for unscrupulous leaders, who want serious change. We are going into their time in Congress as a job with a set amount of time. People who want to get in and get out and get on with life.
Today our episode with Mike DeCillis drops. Next week is Salaam Bhatti. The following is Heidi Schmidt, and then Vance Bostic.
I hope you’ll take some time to listen and to get involved.
