We had our first hard frost of the season last night here in NW Missouri. I realized I forgot to mention ways to keep your outdoor decorations looking nice for as long as possible. Cover mums and other flowers with a blanket, quilt, or sheet in the evening before temperatures dip. Remove the covering in the morning when the temperature rises above freezing. Store pumpkins and other winter squash or gourds in the garage or indoors overnight to keep them from freezing. If they freeze, they become soft and mushy. Place them outdoors the next morning. The weather here for the coming week doesn’t include frost, so this one night chore will help us enjoy our autumn treasures a bit longer. Happy Fall!
