A quick word about Kate Hudson

I know we all hold opinions about ourselves that belie reality.

And so … I’ve never believed myself to be “the type” to have genuine fan-feelings for an actor like Kate Hudson, or for Kate Hudson, herself. I mean, Kate Hudson? Nepo baby? Rock star power-partner? Actor who has been in waaaay too many bad movies?

And yet — here I am, declaring it.

Will Kate Hudson win the Oscar tonight for her terrific performance as “Thunder” Sardina in the wonderful, underrated bio-pic of two star-struck Neil Diamond tribute performers in the musical “Song Sung Blue?”

Will Kate win?

I have no idea, but probably not.

I happen to have seen all of the films nominated in this category this year, and … Kate Hudson is definitely the dark horse in this particularly outstanding group of actors.

But I’d like to make the case for Kate Hudson as an all-around talent who is having a nice moment right now.

This year, all of the women nominated for Best Actress are accomplished singers (except for Renate Reinsve, as far as I know), but come on … did you know that Kate Hudson is a SINGER-SINGER?

Well, she is. I LOVE the shiny ad she stars in, sponsored by the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

First of all, it’s a fantastic ad. And Kate Hudson is the perfect person to sing “California Dreamin’.” (Makes me want to take up surfing, skateboarding, beach volleyball, or cosmetic surgery — just to name a few California sports.)
