Mid-February Catch-Up

Last weekend’s Grand Opening at Maison Blanc was so much fun and the many of you who came out to say hi and scope out this little mercantile made all of our hearts so full.

I sold quite a bit of original art, prints and even some of my pottery offerings. Thank you guys truly…it meant so much to me! I also have a lot of re-stocking to do.

This piece, below, sold fast and I ordered more of these frames to add into more work. I had many of your requesting more and I can’t blame you. These hand-made frames really level up the whole piece.

This week, I worked on a painting commission that I am doing for Rooted in Wellness. I really wanted the piece to be woman-focused and earthy tones. I sat down not 100% sure where my brushes would take me but I love what is coming out. This piece isn’t done quite yet but I am letting it sit in our dining room while I contemplate a few more details.

Speaking of paintings, I have been testing out some new prints that I have scanned from the original that will look great as various sizes on your wall. So stay tuned to see those in the shop soon.

I also ran to the pottery studio this week to glaze up some incense holders and some wall art that I have been playing around with. Pictures to come soon.

For my final art offering this week, I am starting to put a color study and story together for some paintings that I am going to be doing that will be for sale at Dune Saugatuck soon. I’m wanting these pieces to be a little more earthy and encompass shapes, abstracts and a nod to the southwest. A place I’ve never actually lived but feel deeply drawn to.

On the photography front, Mindy Peterson and I are teaching our loved iPhone class at The Foyer next week Wednesday and just added Sunday, March 1st as well. We love teaching these classes and sharing our love of photography with you as well.

This class is for anyone simply wanting to take better images with their phones.

Also, for those wanting to book with me for a session this year, a lot of you booked already when I released my calendar in January. I still have dates left open but they are going quickly. Especially if you have a senior graduating in 2027, I suggest booking their session sooner rather than later.

I also wrapped up and sent out a gallery for a proposal and subsequent engagement session that I photographed at the Frederick Meijer Gardens earlier this month. A bonus for me was having my son Mayer join me to look like a mama and son simply taking photos of plants around the gardens. The funniest part to us was shortly before Bryan pulled out the ring to propose, his then-girlfriend Brinley handed me her phone to take a photo of them. She saw my camera and thought I might be a good person to ask! I snapped the photo (Mayer and I sharing hilarious glances at each other) and when I handed her phone back, Bryan kneeled down and presented a truly beautiful engagement ring. She said yes (of course) and we all had a good laugh, and cry, together. We then set out to tour the gardens together while getting their engagement session.

For those that know me well, you know that I love to read. So I’m starting an unofficial book chat into the mix with my Substack and this week I’m reading ‘The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning’. No, I’m not dying nor is anyone I know. But I do like a thoughtful book to help me gear up for some spring cleaning and donating and this book is helping me get on track. I have a lot of interior home projects lined up in the year ahead but decluttering definitely needs to happen first. Want to read this one with me and report back on any thoughts?
