Huzzah Midlifers!
The weekend is just about to start and I am here for it.
Work was especially worky, which probably comes as no surprise to you if you’ve been here for a while but — dang — I’m always blindsided by it. I always think, “This week will be different,” and then I’m dialed into my computer monitor for eight straight hours navigating never-ending priorities! and initiatives!
This, I believe, is the definition of insanity. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
This is also the mindset I have brought to other challenges over the years, including (but not limited to) alcohol, under employment and bad boyfriends.
Luckily, I love to learn these things about myself and have a seemingly unlimited willingness to change —albeit often on my own stubborn timeline. I might know something (ie: don’t drink wine every day) but it might take me a while to implement any real change around it to make my life better.
What can I say? I’m a late bloomer.
In other news, I joined fellow kayakers after work on Tuesday to paddle up and down the Navesink River. We launched off the public ramp in Fair Haven and, dang guys, the houses around there are stunning. I haven’t been in that neck of the woods in a while and — wow — it felt like every house in that neighborhood and along the water could be featured in a design magazine. Lots of good hydrangea porn to enjoy as I paddled toward the Oceanic Bridge.
In truth, my favorite part of the night came at the end when we got back to our launch point and everyone stopped to just bob in the water.
