As I said in my last article, I was lucky to live in Bavaria for a few years starting when I was four. We traveled to Salzburg, Austria, and throughout Bavaria, so my Disney castle was Neuschwanstein, the actual model for the Disney castle. It is so big that Mad King Ludwig had another castle built just so he could live in it and watch Neuschwanstein being built.
When you’ve visited a castle as large, ornate, and imposing as Neuschwanstein, it might be surprising that one of my other most vivid memories of that time is of a hotel. It wasn’t any hotel, but it was nothing as extraordinary as a castle. The hotel, however, was set in a beautiful location and had a history that I thought was spooky once I was old enough to learn about it. As a side note, it was located in the area where Irmgard Hunt grew up.
