If you are anything like me (I know I haven’t introduced myself yet - I will!), then the idea of giving someone a gift both thrills you and gives you a quiet-but-steady form of anxiety. I task myself with finding the perfect gift, something that someone has perhaps glimpsed at in their periphery, but didn’t stand by long enough to consider; and if they had, well, they would have realized that it was just the thing that they wanted or needed.
A heavy task that I assign to myself, indeed, and one that I have graciously relieved you from with this curated list!
I have found that if I give myself enough breathing time to browse, consider, and observe my gift recipients, I am able to tap into the energy of finding just the ideal thing: one that is a blend of thought and function. Because if there is one thing in particular that sets me aghast, it is something that does nothing more than collect dust. In order to be gifted it must have at least two of the following characteristics: offer comfort, be soft, luxurious, playful, or strike up a conversation. And if it cannot be any of these, it must be functional, small, and leave you wondering why you did not possess it sooner.

Cashmere throw, Johnstons of Elgin
Two autumns ago I fell down a two-week long cashmere exploration that lead me to the mountain plains of Mongolia and the wind-swept moors of Scotland and Ireland. It began at a castle in Bavaria, Germany, at one of the first Christmas Markets of the season. There is no better place to feel the festive spirit! While there I came across a small family owned cashmere and wool tailor who custom-designed outerwear blazers for men; complete with elbow patches. Feeling inspired by the thickest and softest cashmere sweaters I had ever seen, I went home to see what else I could find. Johnstons of Elgin remains my favorite for heirloom-quality pieces, and their 100% cashmere blanket is exceptionally beautiful.

Neem Nail and Cuticle Oil, Dr. Hauschka
I made a tiktok video about nail oil, and the numbers are currently at 120k views and climbing. Nail oil is important for healthy nails and cuticles! The only one I have used is Dr. Hauschka’s and I swear by it. The scent is gentle and won’t compete with lotions or perfume. A perfect gift that can be carried with you anywhere.
Why I recommend it: If you purchase the oil and nail pen together you can refill the pen cartridge with the oil dropper. I don’t know if this was designed this way intentionally, but the dropper nests perfectly into the pen body for refills.
Pop-up book, Hermès
I’ve spoken about this pop-up book before, on another platform. Playful and informative, this is sure to delight - plus who doesn’t love a gift in an orange box?
Why I recommend it: It is the highlight of my working desk, and it brings joy to everyone who discovers it.
Weenie dog ring holder
I love small bits of whimsy, and this ring holder serves up the ideal dollop of whimsy. Perfect for dog lovers, or those who love a little secret giggle for their special treasures.
Why I recommend it: I’m a big fan of gifts that add a special touch to every day living. It’s always a jolt of excitement when I find something that can be used daily, that they’ll miss if they ever find themselves without it.
Rosé de Meunier Extra‑Brut, Champagne Laherte Frères
Though I do shy away from bringing wine as a hostess gift, I do have friends who love sharing a spectacularly good glass of wine.

Why I recommend it: They are updated frequently, so they are never the same - evolving with time and these magical cities.
Personalized leather journal, Bon Marche
I can think of no better place in all of Paris for specialty gift wrapping. The experience itself of selecting the perfect gift, the personalization process, and then the final joy of choosing the packaging and bows, is an act that in itself a gift - and an extra special experience for the one who receives it.
Bon Marche also brings in local businesses and artisans to set up pop-up shops. One year there was a custom embossing and stamp artist. I think this would also be a touching gift for someone who loves to write letters, or to stamp the inside leaflets of their books for their library. Sometimes the best gift we can give is the gift of a quiet morning at home. What better way to say “you are thought of” than the warm, intoxicating scent of fresh croissants baking in the oven?
