For your amusement, I’ve gone back in time to chronicle a few of the most notable scandals and scoundrels that America has suffered through.

Here’s a broad historical overview, roughly chronological, spanning both parties and various types of misconduct, financial corruption, abuse of power, cover-ups, personal scandals.

  • Grant administration (1869–77): Credit Mobilier railroad kickback scheme; Whiskey Ring tax fraud conspiracy involving Grant’s own private secretary.

  • Harding administration (1921–23): Teapot Dome scandal, Interior Secretary Albert Fall took bribes for leasing federal oil reserves; widely considered the worst government corruption scandal before Watergate.

  • Truman administration: “Mess in Washington”, minor bribery and influence-peddling scandals among aides (the “five-percenters”).

  • Eisenhower administration: Chief of Staff Sherman Adams resigned over gifts from a businessman seeking favors.

  • Nixon administration (1972–74): Break-in at DNC headquarters, illegal wiretapping, campaign slush funds, and an obstruction-of-justice cover-up that led to Nixon’s resignation, the definitional modern presidential scandal.

  • Reagan administration: Iran-Contra affair, secret arms sales to Iran used to illegally fund Nicaraguan Contra rebels, circumventing Congress.

  • Clinton administration: Whitewater land-deal investigation; Monica Lewinsky affair leading to impeachment for perjury/obstruction (acquitted by the Senate).

  • George W. Bush administration: Valerie Plame CIA-identity leak case; contracting/procurement controversies tied to Iraq War reconstruction (e.g., Halliburton no-bid contracts).

  • Trump administration #1: Two impeachments (Ukraine pressure campaign; Jan. 6 conduct), Mueller investigation into Russian election interference, later criminal indictments including the classified-documents and election-interference cases, and a 2024 New York conviction on business-records charges.

  • Biden administration: Classified documents found at his private office/home; ongoing scrutiny of Hunter Biden’s business dealings and a congressional impeachment inquiry that did not result in impeachment.

  • Trump administration #2: In his second term, critics, including watchdog groups and congressional Democrats, point to a wave of financial conflicts of interest tied to his crypto venture World Liberty Financial (including a reported $2 billion stablecoin purchase from UAE-linked backers), acceptance of a luxury jet from Qatar, expanding Trump Organization business deals coinciding with his diplomacy, and a sharp rise in his personal wealth (reportedly over $2.2 billion in 2025 alone) alongside a pattern of pardons benefiting political allies and financial associates.

They knew that where money was involved, there would be temptation.

And that is precisely why they set up three separate branches of government, each one keeping the other two honest.

The problem now is that people we elected are in on the grift, grabbing whatever they can get their hands on.
