Hello, Au Naturel! My name is Larry Brooks Stahl and I have returned to grace your Substack feeds and your email’s inbox. (Maybe not grace— find a better term and I’ll run with it.)
As always, the world of comics just keeps on rolling and we have the scoop. Or like, a pretty decently sized scoop… let’s just get into it. We got another interview, the Harvey Awards, a cool cover that a guy you might know has coming out through Kickstarter— shit’s bonkers. Let’s begin.
1.) The Harvey Awards! Every year at NYCC they do a whole awards ceremony, sort of like the Eisners, but less categories. That being said, the nominees for this year are out! There’s a lot of great ones that were chosen, such as the “Best Adaption” category where a lot of everyone’s favorite comic book adaptions of 2026 in television, movies, and so on have been nominated. Now, I really want you all to think about this— “Spider-Noir” was nominated. Not that I even watched it yet, but we live in a world where the Nic Cage Spider-Man Noir show got nominated for awards. (Got a lot of Emmy nominations too.)
Like, think about that.
We live in the year 2026, where (and I cannot wrap my mind around this) THE NIC CAGE SPIDER-MAN NOIR SHOW, BASED ON THE COMIC MINI SERIES FROM THE EARLY 2000’S GOT MADE INTO A LEGITIMATE PIECE OF TELEVISION, AND NOT ONLY MADE IT THAT FAR, BUT RECOGNIZED FOR IT’S STELLAR PERFORMANCES, PRODUCTION, STORY!
Like— WHAT??!!
… but yeah, anyways, a lot of cool comics got nominated too that deserve recognition. You can always vote for whoever you think should win on the Harvey Awards website. Below I will leave the link for anyone who wants to check out the nominees and vote.

2.) Travis Hymel has an exciting new series called “Start Your Engines” coming to Kickstarter here soon, and while that is enough to get the blood pumping, a new factor is being added to the campaign: Greg and Fake’s Kickstarter exclusive variant cover for the book! You wanna have this dope cover on this dope book? I’ll link you the prelaunch page below!

3.) SDCC has officially announced the panels and programming for the con this month! Gonna be real, I know this is brief, but there is TOO MUCH to list here!

3.) Oni Press has unveiled the first ever “comic in a can” to be sold at SDCC for the Matt Kindt title “Fort Psycho”!
Like, no really, they put a comic in a can, you open the can, you read the comic. Oh, and it comes with all sorts of cool little goodies, at a actually ridiculously reasonable price point of $25!
Look, we covered when Flux House and Oni Press started their team up all the way back in the first ever newsletter, and seeing some of the marketing strategy that has been put together on top of the titles that they’ve been putting out— it’s seriously been one of the coolest damn bits of comic marketing I have been seeing in recent years. (Plus, they did the ‘100% Human Made’ logo for everyone that wants to use it…)
Read ALL about it down below, cause I feel like they’re just gonna keep doing super cool stuff.

4.) John Dudley is a good friend of the newsletter, and I really wanted to talk about his book Three Planes #1! It’s going live on Kickstarter here in a few days, so it’s still not too late to sign up and get notified when it goes live!
It’s a good thing this was your next book John, cause I am a SUCKER for sci-fi!

5.) And for the last bit, here is the most recent interview in the American Nature Newsletter saga: Jenn Chun and Sarah Mitrachi! Both of them have been in the industry for a few years doing art, color work, assisting Tim Seeley and Devil’s Due Studios— it was a pleasure speaking with them, and you should check the interview out on YouTube now!

That’ll do it for this week, Au Naturel! Been a fun one— I wish I was going to SDCC, but as a new guy— I guess I’m not ready for the west coast yet. BUT, I am stoked for those of you that are going! Looks like a lot of cool stuff will be there/be occurring there! Support indie! Support your LCS! Support your boyfriend as he stays unemployed to work on his rap career!
See you in the next one, folks!
BUY MORE COMICS!
