Ambassador Khalilizad paid our office a visit. He was not my favorite person.

Me swimming laps in the Palace pool. I did this most days at lunchtime. My “hootch” was very close, so I could take a quick shower before returning to work.

They held a race for boats made up entirely of empty water bottles

Sometimes we had VIPs visit. Here’s SecState Condoleeza Rice. I had met her in Lima when she traveled with George Bush on his first overseas trip.

My friend Jim, who was visiting on TDY, found one of our hidden bars.

A lunch… The food was/is pretty amazing.
