Upcoming Events - May/June/July 2025

Hi all,

It’s been another month of building work, where I’ve spent more time painting than writing. I find I often get good ideas or work out how to resolve plot holes while painting (or doing any other repetitive household task) though, so all is not wasted.

Because of the decorating, I’ve not had time to write a longer newsletter, but I still wanted to give you a quick update on some upcoming workshops and courses:

• The next Gather Online Writing Group session is this Thursday evening (1 May) between 6.30pm-8.30pm and there are still places available if you’d like to join us. The group meets regularly on the first Thursday of every month (except August) and is £10 per session – email me to book.

• My next Biscuit Factory Writing Workshop is all about how to create vivid and realistic settings in fiction. A Sense of Place is on Sunday 18 May and will feature new exercises and content from that shared on recent courses. After that, there’s Writing for Women’s Magazines on 20 July and an Introduction to Life and Memoir Writing on 21 September. All of these Sunday sessions run between 11am-2pm and cost £30.

• I’m also re-running some of my most popular Biscuit Factory workshops in midweek slots beginning with Creative Writing Kickstart on 25 June (10.30am-1.30pm). This session is perfect for beginners or for anyone wanting to get back into writing after a break. But don’t book this one if you’ve recently done a course or workshop with me as it will feature similar content! Incidentally, if there’s a workshop you missed at this venue that you’d like me to repeat – or if you have any other suggestions for topics – then please let me know.

• My Time to Write writing group at Koru Pizza in Gosforth is a smaller group (limited to eight people) and we meet on the last Sunday of the month - the next sessions are on 29 June and 27 July (11am-1pm). It’s £20 per session – email me to book.

• Finally, the new term of the Hexham Young Writers Group (11-13) starts on 29 April. The group meets fortnightly on Tuesdays after school (4pm-5.30pm) at the Queen’s Hall Arts Centre in Hexham. It’s £36 for six sessions and you don’t need to live in Hexham to attend.
