This past March, my son and I drove to Atlanta to attend a beautiful concert given by Gregory Alan Isakov and the Atlanta Pops Orchestra. The experience was unforgettable and otherworldly. My body remembers it. The music imprinted on my every cell.
After the concert, I visited GAI’s website and discovered his invitation to send him not simply a letter but a song. That is an invitation you cannot refuse.
This song, “Kingdom Come”, was written in response to GAI’s song This Empty Northern Hemisphere. As I sat in the grass with my guitar at the entrance of the labyrinth I laid in my backyard, the image of an old, broken carnival carousel came to mind, and the song began . . .
