My kids have been on summer break for the past few weeks, so I’m currently juggling the summertime child care lacuna. I can’t really afford summer camps in this economy, and even if I could, I wanted to see how my kids would fare with a little boredom and books. I’m not trying to do a 90s summer, or a feral summer, I am just shouting “go outside” and “being bored is great, it means you’re free” a lot, then caving and taking the kids to the local pool where I’m attempting to read and write in between swims. So far, it’s working/not working.
I do find this summer shuffle mentally exhausting, simply because there are so many hard shifts and so little routine. By the time night falls, I’m ready to binge something light, fun, and smart.
So here’s what I’m watching, including several series and a classic movie I recently rewatched with my kids. And don’t forget, if you’re looking for summer books to read in the sun, we have a list for that.
