What's in my camera bag?

June has been an incredibly busy month for me and it’s not over! I've been picking up a handful of last-minute jobs, trying to squeeze two months' worth of work into one, since I’ll be out of office starting July 10th. Here are a few images that give a glimpse into what life has looked like lately.

• Canon 5D Mark IV – Recently swapped my R6 for this. If you’re curious about why, feel free to ask!

• Canon R5 – Reserved mainly for short video clips.

• Fujifilm X100V – My compact option for wide shots. Not sure how often I’ll reach for it, but it’s handy to have.

Analogue Kit

• Canon EOS 3 – My workhorse, paired mostly with the 85mm and 28mm lenses.

• Pentax 645N – My go-to for portraits.

• Leica M6 (50mm) – Hoping this one shines for candid moments.

• Canon Sure Shot (underwater camera) – For in-the-water shots.

• Holga – For some artsy shots.

Notes from last summer:
I shot the majority of my film work on the Canon EOS 3. It's reliable and fast but also big, heavy, and loud. The shutter isn’t subtle, which made it tough to capture unguarded moments of campers. I’m hoping the Leica M6 will be a great addition to my kit as it can nail capturing those quieter moments.

I have put together a few galleries to showcase the cameras + the film stocks I used last summer.

Notes: Portra 400 is still my favourite. Even in harsh sun, the tones feel warm and vintage. The three images above feel like they could’ve been taken in the 1950s… Crocs aside.

Notes: Cinestill 400D. Jury’s still out. The only day I used it was overcast, so I don’t feel I’ve seen its full potential. If you’ve shot with it, what do you think? Any tips?

Notes: Surprisingly, some of my cheaper film stocks delivered my favourite rolls. This particular Kodak Gold roll had some real bangers. I still have a bunch in my fridge, but many rolls are likely expired. (Note to self: don’t throw out the boxes next time.) Thoughts on shooting expired film if it’s been refrigerated?

Notes: Loved the tones, especially when shot at box speed on the Canon Sure Shot underwater. I’ll definitely be using this combo a lot more this summer.
