One of my dear friends hosts an adult valentines gift exchange every year and it’s THE BEST. She decorates the house and makes yummy food and everyone dresses up in love colors. I wore green and red this year, but Jane said it was okay because I looked like a valentine rose. She is only 12 and already has all the answers!
Anyway, I made custom matchboxes! And I’m really tickled with how they came out. Many of you asked for the DIY tutorial, and I’ve gone ahead and included the template below. Only thing I ask is that if you make them, please tag me! I WANT TO SEE THEM ALL!
PS. Faye turned one this weekend! I have so many emotions and feelings (all good!) I’ll share soon, but I gave birth the night after this party last year, so all the memories have been fresh.
Ok! Here is the free template. You’ll need Adobe Illustrator, but then you can add your own designs and change the colors as needed.

I purchased my matches from the local hardware store without measuring! Mine didn’t quite fit. I made it work putting them in at an angle. So measure first!
I had my stickers printed at our local FedEx. If you ask at the counter, they can print on full sticker sheet paper. Also, if you ask them to print it for you behind the counter, it’s an additional $2.50, BUT the color register is always so much better.
Here is a little video (below) showing how best to cut them out. (excuse the quality, I was balancing the tripod on my shoulders while cutting.)
Don’t cut through the whole paper! Only cut from one die line to the next so everything stays together until the very last cut. I suggest using a sturdy metal ruler with a cork back so it doesn’t slide and a sturdy sharp knife with fresh blades, otherwise it gets stuck in the sticker. Also get a large cutting mat!
