Hello Dear Readers and Creative People!
I’ve been told for much of my life that in order to be successful, one must focus. You can be either an artist or a writer, but not both. You can be a creative or a business strategist but not both. You get the idea. Maybe I’ve just reached a stage in my life where these manufactured oppositions no longer serve me, and maybe they don’t serve you either. I believe that writing supports art-making and memory activation. And I believe that art-making activates writing and creative spark in all fields.
That’s the idea behind this 28-Day Creativity Reset: to explore our creativity through writing, and art. Through art, and writing. Each inspires the other and I am personally energized just by dreaming up the prompts and preparing for our four amazing weeks together.
While I am compiling my plans and materials for next month, I have a question for you: If you are planning to join the reset in July, is there a particular area of focus you are looking to explore through this process? For example you may just be interested in filling a notebook, or you could be trying to focus on a new art series, imagine a new business plan, or product you would like to develop. Or maybe you are trying to activate core memories from earlier in your life, to save them for your grandkids. You might be just looking for an excuse to crack open a new container of watercolors — you know the one, the good stuff. Schmincke, Daniel Smith or Winsor & Newton. There is no wrong answer here! Let me know your intentions in the comments.
Here are all of the details you need to get started on Monday July 6th with your 28-Day Creative Reset. In case you are new here: you will be doing two 10 minute micro exercises each day for 28 days (or when you are able!). I will lead 30-60 minute weekly live streams on Mondays at noon Eastern time on YouTube (July 6th, 13th, 20th, & 27th). You are welcome to only do the writing, only the art, or a mix of both. This is a true ‘choose your own adventure’.
Here is a preview of the prompts by week beginning on Monday July 6th — I will be providing more in depth direction in the weekly notes here on Substack and through daily posts on Youtube.
Recommended Materials:
The simplest version of this challenge can be completed with a notebook and a pen or a pencil. Some of the prompts suggest gluing or stapling or taping in some external materials, so glue, a stapler or some washi tape might be useful. For those who want to practice more color work through painting and collage, please do break out those watercolors, neocolor, colored pencils or oil pastels. I’ll also share my materials along the way.

This is a GRAND EXPERIMENT—and I am so glad you are joining me in this wacky but undoubtedly fun and empowering pursuit. Because this is the very first time I’m running this specific challenge, I’m offering it entirely for free this year so we can build this community together. Let's explore, experiment, and learn as we go!
Comment below with any questions, conerns or intentions for this month of CREATIVITY. And share this post with a friend you’d like to do this challenge with. Doing things together makes them even more fun and keeps you both more accountable.
Sharpen those pencils, select your favorite pen, pick a sturdy notebook, and grab any long-languishing art supplies and gear up for an amazing month.
Until next week!
Amanda
