When I am alone in nature –
The trees sigh my name.

The wind –
wisps herself around my waist
encouraging me to join
in a light waltz
with their partner –
The sun
who sends me an old
familiar smile
before kissing
the speckled tops
of my bare shoulders.
The birds
they announce their welcome
through soft melodies
of intimate longing
for another soul
like mine
to indulge in their words
of praise
and celebration
to the land we share
and honored
to call ours.
The wet dirt clings to my worn shoes
imprinting its contented sigh
on the outward flaps of the sole
blessing the path I take
while taking itself
along the journey
with me.
The day slows
taking in the life
I have to offer it.
My soul
is full
being fed with the bits and pieces
I call home
which I find
in the trees
in my shoes
in the wind.
Here I am–not judged.
Here I am–not perceived
Here– I can be anyone & anything
everything & everywhere
all at once.
Looking around,
feeling the beginning aches in my knees,
I’m sorrowfully reminded
of my humanity
the full and lack of life
that dwells inside me.
Like the forefront of my mind
was whispering the secrets
of what was brought to it
told as a slither through clenched teeth
meant to capture and constrict
the senses
from taking in that of what’s around them
and contracting inwards
to where the heart
now sat in the pained silence of its own words
replaying them over
and over
and over again.
Wondering
what went Wrong?
And Why?
But then I look around
finding
that the trees
have not moved.
The sun
had not hidden behind a cloud
in fear
of what’s been brought to attention.
of what it’s been reminded of.
No,
the world has not
stopped spinning.
In fact,
nothing has changed!
It has known,
and by not changing
and staying in it’s familiar
quiet stillness,
it is telling me
how much it knows.
Has known.
Creations born and die every day–
starting their day
starting their death.
Each start
a new beginning.
Each ending
a new start.
I look around
and realize
I have nothing to fear!
For when I’m gone,
I will have had
my fill of life.
I will have taken and enjoyed
everything given to me–
from the way the leaves crackle under my feet
to the way my baby hairs
curl and squeal
as it gets hit by the first few drops
of a light rain shower.
The way the tops of the trees
whisper its poetry to me
bringing me out
of the dark place
I woke up in.
I will have taken everything with gratitude,
knowing that it is merely
my turn to have it.
And one day,
when I’m gone,
I will only contribute to the cycle,
giving someone else their worthy chance
of letting their heart thrum as they take in
the glowing grin of the sun–
they too feeling
the kiss upon their bare shoulders.
They too will giggle
when a lopsided beetle wiggles to greet them
sigh when they smell
the fresh dewey grass of the early morn.
When it’s their turn,
I only hope
that they take what’s been given to them.
I hope they look around,
realizing the gift that life is,
and become grateful for everything that brought them
to this very moment
where they’re able to breathe in the dewey mountain air
and be their true selves
living without
a fucking care in the world.
I only hope
they take it
because after all,
it is their turn.
And right now
it’s mine.
And I’m forever honored.
