Over the years, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to weave a great deal of travel into my work and personal life. Many of you may remember my lengthy ‘Travel Diaries’, where I’d share basically every minute detail that I gained from every big trip I went on. They took hours but I loved pouring everything into them with the hope that they’d inspire my community to get out into the world and see the places they always dreamed. Bonus points if my tips and tricks made it even a little bit easier and made them feel more capable.
Through all of those travel experiences, I started to notice that the questions sent my way were mostly centered around travel. I loved those conversations, but the more those questions came in, the more I realized how difficult it is to give truly helpful travel recommendations without really understanding the person you’re giving them to.
Because what someone enjoys out of travel is so personal.
What’s their budget?
How do they like to travel?
Are they traveling with young children?
Do they care more about food, design, relaxation, or immersion?
Do they want slow mornings and quiet luxury, or a packed itinerary seeing as much as possible?
The more I traveled myself, the more I realized that exceptional travel isn’t one-size-fits-all, and neither are the recommendations that shape it.

And honestly, those questions would stop me in my tracks sometimes — especially when it came to London, a city I love so deeply.
I’d find myself thinking, I could give this person so much better advice if I actually understood how they like to travel. Because the best recommendations are rarely the most obvious ones. They’re the ones tailored specifically to the person experiencing them.
I think that realization is a huge part of what eventually pulled me toward travel advising in the first place.
The more I traveled, the more interested I became in what actually makes a trip feel exceptional … and I certainly don’t mean just what photographs beautifully online, but what feels genuinely seamless, meaningful, and memorable once you’re there experiencing it in real life.
I’ve always loved discovering hidden gems, finding special restaurants, learning about destinations, and thinking carefully about how a trip should feel while you’re there.
