🥗 Hunger isn’t just about willpower

Highly processed carbs can drive insulin up, which can make it harder for your body to access stored fuel. This can leave you feeling hungry, tired, and stuck in the crave-eat-crash cycle. It’s not about willpower - it’s about working with your biology to support cravings, hunger, and energy levels.

🔥 The 3 phases of the Always Hungry? approach - at your own pace

There are three phases in the Always Hungry? approach. You can take these phases at your own pace, based on how you feel.

  • Phase 1: Calm cravings and stabilize blood sugar

    • Macronutrient ratios per meal: 45-55% fat; 20-30% protein; 20-30% high fiber (“slow”) carbohydrates

  • Phase 2: Discover which foods work with your body and your lifestyle

    • Macronutrient ratios per meal: 35-45% fat; 20-30% protein; 30-40% high fiber (“slow”) carbohydrates

  • Phase 3: Transition into a sustainable, flexible way of eating for real life

    • Macronutrient ratios per meal: depends on what feels best for your body. In the book, Phase 3 is 35-45% fat; 15-25% protein; and 35-45% high fiber (“slow”) carbohydrates

🧠 Many factors shape our food choices (and no… “discipline” isn’t one of them)

There are many factors that affect our food choices. This can include…

  • Budget

  • Career/job

  • Time commitment

  • Personal preferences

  • Health concerns

  • Emotions

  • Social life

  • Culture

Understanding which factors affect your food choices helps you work with your lifestyle and create a path forward that feels joyful and sustainable - for the long haul.

🍳 Building a meal with Kenzie’s “plate method”

Build your meals around satisfying fats, quality protein, and high-fiber carbs - the kind that keep you full, energized, and thinking clearly for hours.

On a plate, this might look like…

  • 1/2 plate non-starchy vegetables

  • 1/4 plate protein

  • 1/4 plate high fiber (“slow”) carbohydrate

  • Fats as a part of cooking, garnish, sauces, dressings, and flavour.

💕 Remember Chef Dawn’s Number one rule: Be gentle on yourself and others

Everyone is on their own journey. Each of us is navigating different challenges and celebrating different wins - many of which aren’t visible on the outside.

Meet yourself with compassion for where you are today, and extend that same compassion to others. You never know what someone else might be carrying.
