Holy shit that subtitle made me laugh so hard just now. It’s not even funny, I’m just delirious.
So a fellow writer (and outspoken Irish lass), , writes a segment on her Substack each week called “How Much Did I Spend Last Week?” where she shares how much she spent on what and why and I just love it. Talking money is historically taboo (especially for women) and I just don’t think it should be? Money is money is money. We all have it. We all spend it. We all want more. And what’s more is we all struggle with it in our own special ways.
It also is something that is pretty consistently in an ebb and flow state depending on life circumstances, and we are personally in an ebbing state right now with a new mortgage, new daycare, and a second daycare bill about to hit this fall when Rhodes starts (BTW, I won’t be including any of those numbers in my Money Diaries). I’ve always been money-mindful and am one of those freaks who checks my credit cards and bank accounts daily, but currently I am hemming and hawing over every dime I spend and thought what better way to keep track than to… keep track?
So last week, I started a simple Excel spreadsheet to track my spending (not Zac’s, just mine) to better understand what the fuck I spend money on each week and if there’s opportunity to… not. I’m also interested in seeing y’all’s reaction to know whether my spending on groceries and essentials/non-essentials is about the same as the average person’s or less or more, so please feel free to comment all over these Money Diary letters or email me personally because money talks, and so should we (huh?).
