Ram Dass once asked the rhetorical question,
“But who’s minding the store?”
It is a strange question.
But somehow, you know what he means.
There is someone underneath all the roles you play.
Sometimes we meet them.
The relaxed one.
The one who laughs at the little things
The one who really tastes the food instead of thinking about what comes next.
Then last night arrives.
The chest gets a little heavier.
The mind begins loading the week.
The evening is technically still yours.
But some part of you has already started leaving.
By Monday morning, the familiar sits with you.
The right one.
The strong voice.
The face that knows what to do.
The pace that gets everything done.
But is that really who you are?
