Tibi Style Class Recap: Season 7, Ep. 27

Of course, both Amy and Keturah look ten times better than the rest of us, which leads us to believe that if we buy what they are selling, there’s hope for the rest of us. Let’s take inventory here. Amy in a sold out color of the Tropical Wool Trouser Skirt - here is the in stock color. I now have this skirt in four colors (navy, white, pumice, a print). In my defense, they are four different fabrications which makes me feel righteous when Amy gets going on textures later in this episode. The silky cotton Liam looks like a dream, don’t you think? Here is navy nylon Liam on Future Reference (XS) - I own this in another color and love this fabric. Amy’s trouser skirt is chilled out by the green Arnie sandals. Just look so cute. Good job. Amy. To me, this is perfection.

We are packing today. Usually Amy is packing for a specific place - and that place is often Cap Ferrat or Ibiza. Today we are metaphorically packing - for a type of trip, not a specific location.

1:51: Tibi continues to double down on red bottoms. Also, this is Sloane’s airplane look.

3:48: Amy does the sweater as a scarf trick. Love this. Tried this below in Scotland.

4:47: This season we are seeing a lot of styling with tie up sandals over pants. I don't know if I like this for me, but I appreciate what she's doing here.

5:58: Doesn't Sarah look adorable? Love the white Arnie sandals. Okay, maybe I need to reconsider this tube top in a bigger size. I did not like it on me, but could only try an XS in person. Maybe a bigger size would be better. Does anybody have this top? Thoughts? P.S. I love Sarah's hair. I want to be Sarah.

9:08: Amy suggests that this as the (mom) Disney World outfit. Full stop. THIS IS THE DISNEY WORLD OUTFIT? Amy is a person who clearly does not identify as a Disney Adult. Listen, I am a Florida Kid. I’ve been to Disney World approximately 85,0000000 times and I love it with my whole heart and soul.

Hand to God, I booked a Disney World trip this morning for my brother’s 50th birthday, and I was thinking about what I was going to wear. Readers, it will not be the look styled above.

It will be a vintage Disney tee, exactly like the one Ms. Carrie Bradshaw is wearing below. I purchased it this morning via Ebay - here’s another one. RE/DONE has a good line of Disneywear as well. Why have these silly things have gotten so expensive? I don’t know, I don’t make the rules. If you have vintage tees, do not send them to Thread Up - sell them on Ebay for crying out loud. Or sell them to me; I’ll buy them in bulk.

According to the person who sold me the Disney shirt, Freddie Mercury was also photographed in it - now I love it even more ❤️.

10:40 Sloane in a tonal outfit. To me, this is giving fall rather than summer but I am currently dealing with humidity that you can swim through, so maybe this works elsewhere. Amy keeps mentioning Sloane’s imaginary corporate retreat in Colorado. The headline here is the shoes. I need know to know everything about them. Tell me right now.

13:31 Amy and I may be at odds over what we are wearing to the Magic Kingdom, but she is back in my good graces with her bathroom story. Her theory is that Creative Pragmatists are fast in the bathroom (not in the biological sense 😂 ). This is hitting home because for as long as I can remember being aware of this, I am the fastest bathroom person. Like in college, when you're at a bar and the line is a mile long, or at a concert or at the airport or on an airplane and you’re waiting and waiting and waiting and thinking, what on earth is going on in there? Nine times out of ten, if my husband and I enter restrooms at the same time at a restaurant, I'm out faster. I've always thought maybe it had something to do with my liquid intake. 99% of my hydration comes from coffee and Diet Coke, and there’s no doubt I need to drink more water so. As such, I’ve always wondered if my bathroom quickness was biological, but no, I’m just a CP like Amy.

16:19: Sarah in a foxy outfit - no notes. Cute shoes! Also a good example of how to wear brown and black in the summer.

19:45: Amy reveals that this is her work outfit. She is going to wear this to meet Traci in Milan and shop for fabrics. How can I get this job? I’ll carry your bag Amy - bring me! I do well in very hot weather and I already have the trouser skirt.

20:21: Another mom travel outfit and maybe I’m still salty about the Disney look, but I am underwhelmed. This makes me never want to wear a cardigan again again. I don't like it and I don’t think Amy does either?

21:18: Keturah flips the cardigan around. I still don't like it. We can’t see it, but I think Amy’s face looks like this - you can see it from Keturah’s expression:

22:11: Amy to the rescue with the Arnie sandal and ditching the cardigan, praise be. This is the immediate solve. Whew, 100,0000 times better. Maybe the lesson is that under styling is sometimes better?

30:53: It’s not a Style Class without the scrunchy/ballon pant edit. This is really cute styling of the green Sids, and that damn flip flop again. Arnie The Sandal is earning his salary in this episode. Has anyone found a great alt to the Arnie? I have come up with a few possibilities. None are as stylish, but all are easier on the budget:

• Green TKEES - the color is fab, but they have a round toe box rather than square.

• Brown TKEES Square Toe Croc - EXCELLENT! I wish they had more colors.

• J.Crew Audrey Sandals - Pretty, wish they came in more colors.

• Farm Rio Jelly Sandals - not quite the same styling, but so cute.

36:51: Amy says to Write This Down.

Grab a pen, I’ll wait. When you pack, you must mix up your fabrics and textures. This is just as important as the colors and items you pack. Speaking of colors, for the love of God, do not pack all the same rings on the color wheel. MIX IT UP. I need a fabric wheel in addition to a color wheel to make this all work in my head.

37:35: It is revealed that Traci loves a Birkenstock, just a plain old Birkenstock; it doesn't have to be a Celine Birkenstock. Me too girl, me too. The taupe suede is my favorite. Also, I love Amy’s watch.

39:13: More new shoes! We are getting a sneak preview of these wowza heels. I definitely had this heel at my first NYC job in the early 2000s. Except it was the Ann Taylor Loft version (in both taupe and black) and probably cost around sixty dollars. Which was a lot of money at the time.

40:57: Amy is waxing poetic about nylon Stellas. Yep, I agree with everything she is saying. I have these in Navy. I never tie them up as balloon pants, but they always look cool when they show them here. Maybe I’ll wear my nylon Stellas at Disney with my vintage tee.

43:19 Hmm, I don't know if I love these outfits, but I love the color of the skirt and the top. It’s in the same family as the ochre sale sweater that is still on my wishlist. Really pretty.

49:46: Keturah has these pants on backwards. She is making it work - the show must go on. I love Keturah!

55:02: Amy is talking about the days before she was a fashion designer and it’s so good. She shopped at Ann Taylor, she's just like the rest of us. I worked at Ann Taylor for a while, mainly for the discount, and it was one of the best jobs of my life. She goes on to talk about being a student at the University of Georgia wearing things that nobody else was wearing and feeling secure in her sartorial choices. This is triggering as it unlocks my own memory of rolling into my freshman year at Georgetown wearing the Umbros I wore to high school every day and being surrounded by girls from Greenwich wearing J.Crew and Britches Great Outdoors (the store in Georgetown where the cool girls bought men’s rugby shirts and flannels). I felt like Alice in Wonderland.

59:54: I love knowing that Pauline in France designed these shoes with a built in wedge.

1:00:02 Amy is talking about how different people stand in skirts and I'm wondering which way I stand in skirts. Hmmm.

1:06:17 There is no Style Class next week. WHAT. It’s July 4th next week. WHAT????

• The Tibi resale market is STOCKED RIGHT NOW. I’m linking items I own and love - Bio Twill Triple Pleat Cropped Pant, nylon trouser skirt, Ryder Jeans, Bux boots (underrated - these are fab!), Harper sandals, metallic Dwayne sandals, Nylon camo cargo pants (I don’t own these but they look fab!).

• J.Crew is hit or miss for me these days, but I have three items in my cart at the moment, this 90’s inspired skirt, this mini dress (I would wear it over wide leg jeans, like these which I have been wearing ALL SUMMER LONG, and this slip dress (does anyone have this dress? Is it even in the same galaxy as the Tibi version?).

  

• I’ve been keeping track of this Veronica Beard dress all summer and it’s now part of their summer sale. I’ve tried it on, and it reminds me of Tibi or Prada. So good!

• Do you all follow Mrs. Derm? She’s my North star for skincare and makeup. She wore this Marilyn Monroe inspired lipstick this week and I don’t even really wear lipstick. That is excellent branding and storytelling at work! Sheesh.

I’m not sure what I’ll do with myself without Style Class next week, but somehow I will soldier on. Thanks so much for being here and let’s chitchat in the comments!
